High Performance through Energy Management

Manage your energy. Achieve your goals.

How use energy management to achieve high performance?

We all have the same 24 hours every day. The main reason why some people achieve 10x more in any given day than most people do in a month, is not because they manage time better—it’s because they manage their energy better.

Energy management can be considered a way of time management. However, energy, not time, is the fundamental currency of high performance.

The topic is tightly related to the OKR goals setting.

This template combines long term goals with individual tasks categorized by urgency and importance. All tasks have due dates and a completion flags.

Set your goals to enable high performance

If you want the absolute best chance to succeed at getting things done better, your approach should always be the same; focus on quality work.

This means recognizing that not all work matter equally. Shifting from one task to another in rapid succession, with the aim to get more things done is not sustainable.

Focus on quality work that contributes to the bigger goal. Don’t compromise the quality of your work, if you want to work in a high performance manner.

Writing down your goals is the first step towards achieving them. Attach the tasks to the goals using connected tables.

Plan your work

Prioritize your tasks and projects. Choose your actions and compress similar activities, setting a timer if necessary. Take breaks for mental recovery in between actions.

If you apply both dimensions of categorization (urgent/not urgent, important/low importance) to all of your tasks, you will get 4 types:

  • important and urgent
  • important and not urgent
  • less important and urgent
  • less important and not urgent

When you have the highest energy level, work first on important and urgent tasks. Then on the others. This way you master the high performance.

Get the overview of your current tasks in individual quadrants using a pivot table.
